No More, My Love

No More, My Love

Hunter Valley NSW 1820s

Jess Elkin's world is turned upside down when her husband and daughter die within twenty-four hours. On the way home from their funeral, Jess is hit by a carriage. The driver is Marcus Ryan, he is falling for this beautiful mystery woman, and she hasn't even woken yet. She vanishes while he's at a meeting.

On her return home, she finds her husband's heir has already moved in, and she has been dispossessed. The twists see her arrested and transported to New South Wales as a convict.

At Jess’s suggestion, her staff go to Marcus to plead for his assistance. They set off to find her with a clue to where she is. Their journey takes them to Newcastle, a tiny coal town at the mouth of the Hunter River, and later, further up the Hunter Valley in New South Wales. Then Marcus vanishes…

Alone again, Jess returns to England to see to Marcus’ affairs.

A love at first sight story that has many twists and turns.

Why this story was written?

I came across a postcard size of  Newcastle in its early days. The church the card predates, Christchurch Cathedral, was already there, and I wanted to tell Rev Middleton's story as well. So, I hope you enjoy my first romance with a love-at-first-sight story!

The painting of Newcastle in the 1830s is by Joseph Lycett.
