A First Fleet Trilogy
The First Fleet to Australia (then known as New Holland or New South Wales) consisted of eleven ships. Most were convict transport ships converted from the slave trade, but some, like the Lady Penrhyn, were new.
All eleven ships made it to Botany Bay within four days of each other. The first arrived on January 18th 1788, and the last ship arrived two days later. However, that was not to be their final destination.
At six o'clock, just before the sunset on January 26th, the last of the eleven ships dropped anchor in what was to become known as Sydney Cove, Port Jackson.
These are historical novels based on Doctor Arthur Bowes Smyth's journal of the Lady Penrhyn and Governor John Hunter's books about his time in the colony, including other historical documents and his diary while on the Sirius.
Times were tough, but the women had to be tougher to survive. Food was scarce, and everyone worked hard to produce what they could.
Many convict women in the early days were permitted to return home; however, for most, it was a one-way trip. They were torn from the loving arms of a family whom they were never to see again.
